Strange erosion effects? horizontal outcroppings.

I'm getting strange outcroppings, that scan horizontally. the strange thing is, I can control their size and magnitude. they're linked to a certain size in rendering, because it looks like
and

both are seen at .5 kilometers magnification, but the first is at 4k output resolution, and the second is at 8k. it seems to scale by a factor of 10 or so every time the size goes up. there is only a perlin noise, an erosion, and then coastal erosion, in that order, before .png output.
