Feature Requests / variable slider speed option
« on: October 01, 2011, 10:03:05 PM »
Sometimes I find when I'm trying to move a slider just a tiny little bit it's moving too much to be able to use the mouse and I have to resort to typing in different values.  For example in a Height Selector node, adjusting one of the vertical sliders or the fall off adjustment, when grabbing a slider's position indicator and moving my mouse just a tiny bit it causes the value to jump by an amount much larger then I would like.  I'm not sure if this is the way the node is setup or if it's something to do with my mouse settings (I do have my mouse sensitivity set rather high).

What I'd like to propose though, is that if you hold down a key (such as Ctrl or Shift key) when you drag a slider that maybe it moves/increments at only 1/10th or 1/100th of the current incrementing behavior.  Ctrl for 1/10 and Shift for 1/100 speed.

Another option I've seen used is the option of resizing the dialog box so the slider becomes much longer on the screen.  This also allows for finer control of the movement since the min to max range is over a much larger screen space distance.

I've used a few other programs that have these sort of options/behaviors for adjusting sliders and it's very useful when trying to make small adjustments.  I personally prefer the modifier key (Ctrl, Shift example) option.

(I'm running WM Pro 2.2 without the hot fix and I haven't tried the 2.3 beta either, so this might have already been reported/addressed.)

Steps to create redraw error I'm seeing:
1)  Create a new Radial Grad generator.  I just used default settings.
2)  Select and observe Radial Grad node.  Looks like the default smooth lump of a bump.
3)  Create a new Perlin Noise generator.
4)  Wire the Perlin Noise generator output into the mask input of the Radial Grad.
5)  Select and observe what the Radial Grad node now looks like.  It's a randomly bumpy lump now.
6)  Delete wire coming into the Radial Grad's mask input.
7)  Select and observe the Radial Grad node again.   It should be back to the default smooth lump, but what I'm seeing is still the randomly bumpy bump, as if the wire is still connected from the noise into the mask.

Opening the properties for the Radial Grad node and changing any of the parameters seems to make it snap back to acting as normal again.

Feature Requests / automation scalar node expansion
« on: December 15, 2010, 12:13:09 AM »
Would be nice to be able to add additional variable outputs to a single automation scalar node.  Also, when mousing over an output port I think it should display the variable name instead of "scalar output".

Feature Requests / alternate way to rename nodes
« on: December 14, 2010, 11:34:58 PM »
Currently I think the only way to rename a node is to right click on it and select "Set name".  I would like to purpose some alternate options for renaming:

1) Assign a shortcut to that "Set name" command.  Letter "n" or Ctrl-n for example.  If it was a ctrl- command then it seems like it would also go under the Edit pull down menu.

2) Another really nice option would be an editable name field somewhere inside a node (when editing parameters or values).  That way when coping/pasting a node and jumping inside it to change a value or two it would be a snap to also rename it right then and there.

Bug Reports and Help / "text output" node?
« on: December 14, 2010, 12:31:52 AM »
What is the "text output" node for/where might one use it, and what can it be hooked up to?  (I couldn't figure out what it can attach a noodle connection to, and didn't find it in the user guide or device reference info.)

Thought this was kind of fun :)

Feature Requests / A collection of requests for WM2
« on: August 10, 2008, 04:02:06 PM »
Here's a long list of collected WM2 requests!

1) An option to not draw/highlight the polygon edges when viewing the mesh in the 3D view.

2) .OBJ options:
 a) An .OBJ export option for the resolution of the mesh (ie. so you could export a lower poly .OBJ if wanted).
 b) An option for .OBJ export to set Y axis as up (ie. rotate the saved mesh 90 deg.)
 c) The option to set the output bounds to something besides 0 to 1.  For example -0.5 to 0.5 to center the mesh on the axis, or something like -256 to 256 to center the mesh and also have the mesh be 512 units on a side instead of 1 unit.

3) For the Combiner node, if you right clicked on it, it would be cool to have a "swap inputs" option. Or maybe if you were inside the node editing it there could be a "swap inputs" button that would swap the two inputs.

4) When pasting nodes have them show up under where the mouse pointer is currently located.  ie. A "drop it right here" sort of thing.

5) The ability to cut and past nodes between two WM sessions. (I know you can import a .tmd file, but being able to just select a few nodes from one session and copy/paste them to another would be really great!)

6) Return to the same zoom and window location as before when exiting a macro.

7) When editing a Grouping Tool note, would be nice to have Ctrl-Enter be equivalent to pressing the "OK" button.

8) Related to node naming:
 a) Add a name field in the edit area for nodes.  ie. If you double click on a node to adjust values, sliders, etc., have the nodes name field be there in the top of the window too so you can easily change the name while you're in there.
 b) Allow longer node names. (This is less of an issue now that Group notes are available and you can put descriptive and useful info about what's what there, but still, 22 characters seems like a strange node name limit.)
 c) Also, what about having a keyboard short cut for renaming a selected node, maybe "n" for example? ;)

9) A keyboard shortcut for disconnecting a selected node out of the chain, maybe "x" could be used.  (Would not delete the node, but simple disconnect it.)

10) I find myself accidentally selecting the extra advanced node ports all the time.  Maybe bring back the Preferences option of hiding the extra/advanced ports and add the "~" key back to the keyboard shortcuts to toggle their display.  (Do not have the nodes shrik in size like they use to though when toggling the extra ports off.)

11) An addition of what I might call a "dot" node.  This would be a smallish round node that doesn't do anything (simply has an in and an out port) but can allow better visually route wires when trying to make a very clean/specific layout.  This would allow for "squared off" sort of paths from one location to another.  Routing clarity would be it's only function.

Please let me know if you'd like any more details or clarification on any of these.

Bug Reports and Help / Generator nodes not randomizing inside macros
« on: August 10, 2008, 01:58:27 PM »

Is seems that once you put a Perlin Noise, Advanced Perlin, or Voronoi node inside a macro that they don't seem pick new random seed numbers when Randomizing ("rolling the dice").

Bug Reports and Help / Several graphical/UI issues I've encountered
« on: August 10, 2008, 01:45:00 PM »
A few things I've encountered:

1) When viewing a Mesh Output node, after building a terrain with resolution larger then 513x513, nothing shows up in the 3D view.

2) The little red line "bypass device" visual displays immediately on/off when right-clicking on device and turning it on/off there, but when using the hot key "b" it does not display until the mouse moves over (or off of) the node.

3) Deleting a "Basic Coverage" or "Simple Layer" macro zooms the node graph all the way out (as if you had done a Ctrl-A and hit the space bar to do a "zoom to fit" on all).  There might have been another node that caused this behavior also, but I forgot to note which one.
*EDIT:  I remembered what else was causing similar behavior--it's when leaving a macro and going back to the "Top level" tab, the view always zooms all the way back out. IMO it would be nice if it kept the previous zoom and pan location on the network as when you entered the macro.
