A new build?
Good news?

Hmmmm.

Not knowing who is at the other end, do I really want to put in my Registration Key...

Or is Onkelpoe just making me paranoid :)

Paranoid? Who says I'm paranoid?
What have they been telling you?

Stephen, if you are out there drop us all a line or knock on the table or something to let us know you are there...

Well if anyone cares Houdini 16 is about to be released in a couple of weeks and contains some excellent terrain tools.  I've been testing them and they are pretty damn nice.

There is indeed a new beta available on the download page. If your subscription was valid for last update (3011), you can download the new one. It was stephen himself I guess!

Man this is strange stuff. I noticed Oshyan posts in here occasionally and the mind blowing thought of Terragen buying
up the World Machine universe rolled through my head. I recently purchased Terragen 4 and am doing skyboxes for
terrains/maps made in World Machine. This all may be heresy in some minds but definitely intriguing.

I am absolutely impressed with the entire Terragen developer/community relationship. Checking here the past year
or so has been depressing and frustrating but seeing this latest activity gives me hope :D.

World Machine is the coolest and easiest way for me to get nice detailed heightmaps and I really want to see this
'dark era' go away.

Wow.

If I had 2 grand to buy it and another 5 grand for a rig to run it on I would be right there!  :)

For small/med studios I think this is going to steal away many WM customers unless things shape up around here but, for the small timers (like me) and hobbyists who can't shell out thousands at the drop of a hat, well...

I must live in hope.

No need to spend thousands - unless you're generating revenue over $100K. Houdini Indie is available for $199 USD. It's got most of the power of Houdini FX, with some limitations. I found hope, and more, in Houdini Indie.

That's $199 per year by the look of it, but still...

The cool thing with houdini 16 is that you can create teh landscape and then add an avalanche, or moving water, or bursting volcanoes.... Its a full 3d package vs just a terrain editor. 200 a year is an amazing price.

I still love World Machine, but I really hope that the silence can be broken, because a community is hard to rebuild once its been lost.

Such good news. I really count on World Machine, as I got some great results for importing these landscapes to Cinema 4D (heightfields and using maps for distribution of rocks, plants and other items). I am at basic version at the moment, but think about upgrading.

Let's see how this continues...

By the way - How do I get the beta? Where is the download page?

You need to buy at least the standard version to access the development builds.
Once you have a license code go here https://update.world-machine.com/upgrade.php and you can choose which version to download

Thanks, I found it.
As I bought the standard edition in August 2015, I can download all releases up to August14th, 2016, which means
•World Machine 2 Standard 3.build3011 (12/14/2015)

The only way to get World Machine 3.build3014 (February 6, 2017) seems to be to buy an upgrade. Well, seems I'm out of luck here.
As the development seems to go on now, I think of upgrading from Standard to Professional anyway...

I figured something was gonna happen sooner or later. So much time and effort had been put into it that, barring some kind of cataclysmic event in Stephen's life, I didn't think the program would just die like that. Though truth be told, I thought that it might end up leading to the program being sold.

Love the blog post though, I'm excited to see the new features, that example at the end looks pretty awesome!

So I upgraded to professional.

Just a question: Can you install V2.x and Beta V3.x in parallel?
Is there something from V2.x that doesn't work in Beta V3.x?
