hmm... Just downloaded the build for this, but haven't loaded it into WM yet. I'd never thought of useing one of my strata gray scales as the input for terrace modulation.  Don't know if this was how it was done, but reading this gave me the idea. Off to check out the build and see about the strata gray scales, may try them as inputs on some of the other sprockets.  :)

Looks nice! That stratified effect is different from what we usually see using the terrace device... Haven't played with it much, but I do like the effect.
As for turning that into a macro, I could give it a shot.. But I don't know yet how that "seed" problem would be solved.. The macro would probably not have any "terrain" input, and be just a generator-like device.. don't know yet..

Here's my attempt at Wind. It's not a macro, as I'm not skilled in writing them, so please accept this .tmd until a macro-savvy individual steps up.

The two perlins share the same SEED, and this seems to give the best results. The Wind Mask.bmp was used to expose a strata.bmp (created with StrataGen2 on the "windward" side of the terrain.

Please experiment, have fun and post your results.

Nifty effect Fil... now that can be used for getting rather exotic patterns out of ones terrains... something i can experament with... well like Remnant said... more then likely we will need a new erosion device... probably called Wind Erosion obviosly... well... nice attempts from everyone... thanks guys...

My hunch is that this effect might be only able to be done with a new erosion device specifically simulating the effect.

After v1.0, anyone is free to take a crack at it by writing their own plugin.

I like the look of the second one, it looks like finer sand bulding up behind; down wind, of corse sand. nice.
 My idea has led me to trying this build to make multipel rivers converging. We shall see.

Ok, in order to commemorate breaking the psicological barrier of 100 posts in this forum, I present you the images resulting from my attempt at making wind erosion... ta-da!

As you can see, they don't look much like wind erosion :( but I do like the "streaks" effect.. they do seem like short dunes..  I'm now wontdering what would be the result if a certain noise was added to displace them.. somehow...

I would very much like to thank Oshyan for lending me his mastering genious in quickly applying a texture and rendering them in TG.. (these are only test images with a quick texture.. noting really hard to do in less than 2 minutes)

Hmm.. Well, over here, results aren't spectacular either.. Based my approach on that Angled Strata idea, where the terrain is "tilted" by add a gradient, then terraced, and the subtracted the gradient again.. But instead of terracing it, I eroded it.. This way I would "control" the flow of the erosion... Sounds nice doesn't it? :) well, It's all theory :P in practice it didn't look as nice.. Basically the river erosion takes too much land out of the ground... what we want is more like getting land out of walls.. So that gave me a socnd idea.. to use the slope selector, in conjunction with the select angle and apply some glaciation transformation to it (transform device). I can't say I am happy with it!.. So instead of using the transform device, I used the expander device set to tighten.. I lost a bit of detail, but the end result was better..
The glaciation would lower the height of a wall, past below the ground's height.. It's rendering now..

OK... i know it can not be done and i will explain why... the kind of erosion we are talking about here sweeps at a generally level plain of motion displacing the loose dirt, soils and sands over very long distances... in other words the wind being blasted across far distances at high speeds is not the same as fluvial erosion types were it comes from above and goes downward from water flow seeking lower parts of the land which is what we are getting every time... sorry but unless one can edit a simular effect in a seperate application then import the hieght map into world machine it can not be done... i hate importing images because world machine does not save that image import with the file preset... maybie v1.0 has some goodies that can bring us closer to that wind erosion... who knows?

OK i installed World Machine... could not resist... will redo the PC later... messed with the devices all day... close but no cigar... world machine just can not do that type of pattern... basically it is a very very long fluvial-like erosive pattern that is kind of wavy and that it does not effect the local rough terrains but just sweeps over it with the blown sands effecting the lower less rough elevations... very neat but do not think it is possible currently in this version... oh well... i tried!

odd, Just got back on after having my brother and family over for brunch. The kids had to have the TV on the cartoon network and they sat there watching the old superman cartoon from when I was a kid.  Then got here to fil's post.

Hope noone gets upset if I burn a little band width here.
the latest version. And  they say a picture is worth a thousand words so...

Almost looks like the render. I'm thinking about replacing the combiners with choosers and inputing the Dunes macro. ???

I think I know that Super Fil guy.. I can try t talk to him to see if he can do anything ;) but he has been on vacation for a while, maybe he can come up with something :). I just don't know how better will it be comparing to Manley's attempt.
