Title: Cache node builds between program restarts
Post by: nih on February 26, 2009, 08:16:09 pm
Not sure if it can do it since I'm stuck in the middle of a 20 minute build, but I'd quite like to avoid having to redo it all just because I quit WorldMachine. Honestly, size isn't a problem when it's killing 20 mins just to see how a blur at the end of the node tree came out.

one of the biggest improvements that will be in WM 2.2 is better memory handling support; in particular, WM will support caching build results during memory conservation so that you will still have access to all of the individual heightfields. I hadn't thought of making them persistent between sessions, but that could be possible if folks think this is useful.. perhaps as the result of a "Save Session..." command rather than as a default behavior?

I'd have it just as part of the normal workflow, maybe with a toggle in the preferences. The cache files could then be saved seperately as "projectname_nodename.cache" or something.
