General Discussion / Trees in world Machine
March 26, 2019, 03:31:44 pm
hi everyone

Huge fans of world machine and been using it on many projects, and we are working on a movie that has these aerial shots of some mountains, .

I am trying to work out a way of maybe scattering very small trees.

there was a previous post here with someone that was able to nail that look, and I wondered if you guys can suggest ways of creating the same exact look?

any help and feedback would be greatly appreciated
Bug Reports and Help / Tiled world export questions?
January 30, 2014, 02:25:19 am
Hi there,

My questions are a follow the previous topic I posted a few days ago.

basically I am working on a large tiled terrain, the basic terrain is generated from DEMs, my terrain is 16 by 13 tiles each tile is 110 Kms Square.

I have set up my tree and it all works fine so far..

the issues i have are when building a tiled world.

1-Normal & texture Maps/ When exporting Normal and Colour maps, I get horizontal banding on each tile, it is  more evident in the normal map than the colour map, I have tried all format PNG, BMP and Tiffs both 8 bit and 16 bit and still cant get rid of it, If i do a normal build the issue doesn't happen.

2-Mesh Export/  When exporting the mesh no matter what software I import the mesh to Maya, XSI or Max the mesh is always perpendicular to the world and has to be rotated in scene, am I missing an option to change the mesh axis?

3-Scaling/ The world and all the units in WM are set to Kms yet when importing to a 3D software it always comes in too small and needs to be scaled up massively despite the 3D package being set to kilometers as well.

4-On our project we are flying from one end of the map to the other end of the map, is there a way to export the tiles at different resolutions where I can have the origin and destination tiles exported at a high res and the in between tiles at a low res? and still maintain the tiled nature of both the Mesh and the maps?

Any help or advice on these would be much appreciated.

Many thanks
Hi there

My question is regarding tiling DEMs again.

I have to tile an area that is 1540 Kilometers by 1760 Kilometers

Divided into 224 DEMs each DEM is 110/110 Kilometers each DEM is 1200 pixel square

The DEM all tile perfectly obviously.

when taking them into world machine it basically crashes when i input the above scales into the project settings and the tiled file input settings.

I am not sure if WM can handle that amount of tiles? or is it the scale itself.

Any input on the matter would be appreciated.
Bug Reports and Help / Tile export
December 04, 2013, 04:43:14 am
Hey there

I am very new to WM

Basically we are using DEM Maps to create a specific area, and I am applying some erosion to it and texturing it in WM.

The thing is I am using several tiled maps and inputting them through the Tiled File Input so I can get the same effects carried on from one tile to the next.

The issue comes when I am trying to export the eroded mesh, as I would like the mesh and maps split according to the number of tiles I have appied.

But I am getting only one huge mesh and large maps.

I don't know if there is a way to do so, maybe its not meant to do it, just the if I use one by one mesh it never lines up in the 3D software once I import them all in.

Any tips on the matter will be greatly appreciated.
