Depends on which filters you're using, but a very soft mask to keep the filters from influencing the coastline should actually work.
Is creating the coastline afterwards (eg. through the coastal erosion device) an option?
Can you post some images to show your exact problem?
When you increased your main extent, did you also increase Normal Build Resolution in the World Extents menu accordingly?
well the more you zoom out, the smaller everything looks?
General Discussion / Re: Using real world models
January 15, 2011, 06:43:04 am
There is a small, free program floating around on the internet called 3DEM. It loads Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) in various formats and can export them into various different formats. At least one of them (.ter) definitely works in World Machine too.
Feature Requests / Re: Wacom Tablet
January 13, 2011, 01:01:36 pm
Just tried this with my tablet (also a wacom) and it basically works, but it's hard to right-click without also moving the cursor - which would be interpreted as moving the canvas. The issue with connecting nodes is a similar one, I think.

This could be avoided if moving stuff around wasn't enabled by a simple click/drag, but CTRL+click/drag. Maybe as an optional feature.
There is no rotator.
I'll report this as a bug now.

edit: But iirc there's a macro for this floating around somewhere in the forum!
You can flip the x-axis using the Flipper: Devices > Filters > Flipper.

You can set the resolution in the Project Settings.

(Did you notice the Guest board, that doesn't require registration? http://forum.world-machine.com/index.php?board=10.0)
I'll put something together and PN you within the next 30min or so.
WM2 comes with a couple of macros, one of which is called basic coverage or something. Take a look at it and maybe at some of the examples that come with WM.

The basic workflow is to create the desired colors using RGB generators and perhaps mixing them using a chooser and some mask. That mask could be a perlin noise or, as shown in that image, the flow map from an erosion device or a map generated by  selector or whatever you want. :)
Disable Use seam fixing in Preferences > Graphic Options, then leave and enter layout mode. Everything should be fine now.
If this doesn't work, try disabling Use fastest display method or Bake lighting into terrain.
You can just transform the input terrain of the Colorizer according to your needs. For example place a Clamp inbetween. Similarly, nobody says that the input of the Colorizer has to be the terrain itself - it could be it's slope for example or a completely different terrain.
You can use the Colorizer to create a texture using the current color scheme or an imported color scheme.
The default schemes are stored in Program Files (x86) > World Machine > colors.tga
Bug Reports and Help / Re: relative path problem
September 06, 2010, 03:54:31 am
Looks like relative paths don't work when files are in another folder. I.e. folders that are outside the folder the tmd is in.
Thanks for reporting this!

Have you tried setting "Default Relative File Path" in the Project Settings to your ReportProject folder? That should do the trick.

I'm not sure I really understand your problem but nobody's stopping you from using one fork of your path for texturing and another for the heightfield.

Yes - just use the Clamp device to adjust the height range of a heightfield.

Works fine for me. Did you uncheck "Use absolute path for file name" and are you working in a project that has been saved at least once?

Check out the Chooser (in the Combiners tab). It allows you to mix two terrains using a mask.

I don't think there's a way to get around the cost of the erosion device.
Do you mean "large" as in "large-scale" or as in "high resolution"?
