Creating a valley
« on: November 11, 2013, 01:36:02 PM »
I'm new to WM and i would like to know if it's possible to create valleys: semi-flat areas surrounded by mountains. Any tips or examples?

There are probably as many ways to create this as there are people. The two methods roughly fall into:

1) Masking your noise generators to create flat lowland areas. A simple example file showing this technique is "Examples\Terrain Examples\Smooth and Sharp Rocks"
2) Modify your terrain to flatten lowlands. A simple way of doing this is through a "Simple Transform" device with the glaciate setting high.

For a couple different (and more advanced device-network-wise) takes on this, check out the example file "Examples \ New Examples for WM 2.3\Scenes\Southwest Mesas.tmd" for an example of the technique in a southwest-US kind of setting. Or "Examples\New Examples for WM 2.3\Techniques\Height Chooser Scene Example" for an example of layout-driven mountains and valleys.
