I see people creating terrain with World Machine 2 and Geocontrol2. Are there any tutorials available to do this. I plan to use it with Vue 10 and Unity 3D. Any help.
Using WM 2.2 is a lot of fun and gives an almost full control over every feature you decide to add and change. Plus, since some games need the right scaling for terrain heights, once again WM is the best, to me (and I’ve tried many).
GeoControl, on the other hand, has the Sapphire plugin that lets you freehand modify your terrain, really a great tool (although that’s all the good I can say about GC).
GC’s worst problem, however, is it has a very bad way of handling heights and altitude scaling because, when importing, you have to tell it the highest elevation (tallest terrain) while, when exporting, you have to tell it the world’s max altitude (“sky” limit) so that you dont get full-white mountain peaks.
This is very important for games like Skyrim, which has a precise scaling for altitudes and interprets full-white areas as 7471 meters tall mountains with all the problems that this thing can bring.
Anyway! I dont know whether I can post links here, but I’ve found something interesting by googling “world machine geocontrol unity 3d tutorial”. One of the first entries is a video tutorial for Vue using just WM and GC. ^^
