I recently installed WM 1.0. The new version is great, but there is one problem. When I try to open a bump map with the “File Input” device, sometimes it gives me an error message (“error while reading input file”).
It does this with some of my bmp’s, but opens others just fine. Do .bmp files have to be a certain size, or only grayscale?
WM should be able to open BMPs regardless if they are color or grayscale. Also it should do fine on respect to image size…
I think the color hypothesis is less likely to cause problems unless it means the BMP is encoded in slightly different sub-format.
It is somewhat frequent that a file type may have several sub-formats and WM may be only ready to open some of them. If this would be the case, the BMP files that you are giving WM may have been saved using different applications. To go arround this problem, try resaving them in an image editor that produces the right kind of BMP.
I find it odd that it may be related to size, because that was somewhat tested… But we never know… If this is the problem can you tell us the size of the files? square or non-square, etc…
But try first resaving it in mspaint, for instance… To make sure you force resaving you can copy and paste the image onto itself, then save it as 24-bit BMP.
Fil,
Thanks for the reply. I tried a few different bmps - color, greyscale, different sizes. I found that WM will open color bmps, but not greyscale ones. I made the bmps in PSP 9, sizes were 256x256 and 512x512. The image size didn’t seem to matter when opening the bmp files.
