16bit png's (colour), 16bit tiffs (height) only recognised as 8bit in Photoshop

hmm.

I’ve tested and confirmed that PNG (height and rgb) and tiff (height) export and are recognized and imported as high bit depth by both Photoshop 7 and CS3.

Double check that the export settings are right; also at least for PNG files windows will recognize and report its bit depth in the right click->properties->summary tab.
