So, I won’t mince words, this project only exists because I think it’s hilarious. As some quick background, a friend shot me an image over text yesterday because he saw a leather upholstered couch or chair or something that looked like a face. He shared it because he thought it was funny. The moment I looked at it, I was like “That would make a really cool heightmap, actually…” because the black leather with the highlights looked like it’d map really well. I ended up consumed by that thought, and decided to make it a reality.
Now, the image was sent over MMS (he was off thrifting in some small down that didn’t have enough network coverage to support RCS), so the file was absolutely tiny. I brought it into Photoshop, enlarged it, but obviously it was very low quality.
I decided to load the enlarged version into WM, then use a Shapes
device to draw the basic shapes and contours out, and then go from there. Unfortunately, I ended up with a project that looks way better than it should given its origins.
