BMP Grayscale Output

This might seem like a stupid question, but it’s something I’ve struggled with for a long time.

If there a way to force the grayscale output (using height output) to always put the highest elevation at grayscale 255 and the lowest at grayscale 0?

Whenever I export the grayscale height field, I need to use photoshop to adjust the range. Which I’m fairly certain is changing some features of the terrain.

Yes, you definitely can do this!

Drop a Clamp filter device onto the wire leading to the height output. Then check the box that says “Normalize”. This will enforce that the highest and lowest values are mapped to 0 and 255.

It works like a charm.

It’s always something simple. I’ve used clamps in other places, but it never occurred to me to use them on the output side.
