shouldnt this just be 100% when its finished?
have i altered some preference that bakes everything 70 times (and counting)? or is it just a bug, and my nodes are just way too complicated?
I’ll admit i am building @8k, but surely 4 hours is still excessive?
the heightfield count so far is 223…
also it crashed, and every time i build past 2048, it crashes and never finishes.

That is certainly not expected behavior!
Can you provide more information? Is this on WM 2.2 or the 2.3 beta?
