Common Problems

WM Complains about a file called PluginDLL.dll:

This means that you’ve installed WM 1.0 into the directory that contained 0.99. Your best bets are to either uninstall .99 before installing 1.0, or install into a different directory. Last case, you can simply delete the file yourself.

File Output problems

Here’s a checklist of things to look for, in order:

  1. Is the File Output device’s input connected to the network? (If not, connect it)
  2. Is the File Output device’s status yellow (If it is, build it so it turns green)
  3. Have you set a valid filename/pathname? (Click the “Set” button in the File Output
  4. Have you chosen a valid output format (ie non-null)
  5. Have you pressed the “Write Output to Disk” button to write the file?

Slow building

What else is running on your computer, even in the background on the taskbar? WM defaults to “playing nice” with its CPU priority, which means that it can be starved of timeslices and build very slowly. You can change this behavior by going to Preferences->Build Options and unchecking “Use low-priority build thread”.

Stalled or slow erosion

Make sure that you’re using the new v1.0 Erosion device. Old World Machine terrains for compatibility reasons will continue to load the old .99 erosion, which is not safe at high resolutions. Replace the old erosion device with the 1.0 erosion to fix.
