Configuration of WM for UDK

To configurate World Machine, for UDK Landscape system, you need to know what scale UDK can produce.
UDK uses UnrealUnitis to set the heightmaps
In all of the Unreal Tournament games, 1 Unreal Unit is equal to 2 cm.

First X/Y
UDK must have a valid size for the Heightmap.
Drawscale3D is how many times the Heightmap is scaled.

Size DrawScale3D.X/Y Range in Meter
4033x4033 128 10.32km (10,324.48 m)
2017x2017 128 5.16km (5,163.52 m)
1009x1009 128 2.58km (2,583.04 m)
1009x1009 128 2.58km (2,583.04 m)
509x509 128 1.30km (1,303.04 m)
505x505 128 1.29km (1,292.80 m)
255x255 128 652,80 m
253x253 128 647,68 m
127x127 128 325,12 m
127x127 128 325,12 m

Formula
SizeDrawScale3D0.02=Range in meter
Exampel
10092560,02= 5166.08 m (Resulution is 5,1m/pixel)
1009640,02= 1291.52 m (Resolution is 1,2m/pixel)

Then Z
The actual ratio is 1:512 where 1 Display.DrawScale3D.Z unit = 512 Unreal Units of total heightmap altitude range

DrawScale3D.Z Altitude Range in Meters
1 512 uus 10.24 m
2 1024 uus 20.48 m
4 2048 uus 40.96 m
8 4096 uus 81.92 m
16 8,192 uus 163.84 m
24 12,288 uus 245.76 m
32 16,384 uus 327.68 m
48 24,576 uus 491.52 m
64 32,768 uus 655.36 m
80 40,960 uus 819.20 m
96 49,152 uus 983.04 m
112 57,344 uus 1.15km (1,146.88 m)
128 65,536 uus 1.31km (1,310.72 m)
256 131,072 uus 2.62km (2,621.44 m)
512 262,144 uus 5.24km (5,242.88 m)

Formula
Range in Meters/0,02/512=DrawScale3D.Z
Examples
2,641.92/0,02/512=258

Tutorial

First
Decide what X/Y Size and what drawscale3D.X/Y you are going to use in UDK

Exampel
Size=2017*2017
Drawscale3D.X/Y= 64
Range in meter=2,581m

Type in Size in resolution
Type in Range in meter into Width

Second
Decide what Z height and what drawscale3D.Z you are going to use in UDK.
Exampel
Range in meter=1,146m
Drawscale=112

Type in range in meter into Maximum Elevation

Build and export

Then import into UDK and set your decided Drawscale

Very useful information, thank you for posting this!
