While working on this, I thought of something I’d like to see for meshes at least, inside WM.
I really have to dig up the info on the normal usage of Displace from Normals on Meshes in 3D apps. I just sort of assume that if you have a mesh, this is a reasonable feature to expect.
I could be totally wrong, but it doesn’t hurt to ask about it.

A quick little update. Even if this isn’t adopted in WM, it looks like I could do what I’m going for in Blender using Vector Displacement. Enough to learn how (and under what circumstances) it is done. I’ll try to remember to post updates on my progress for anyone here that’s interested.
