Making a Surface From Contours

First off, let me say that I am very impressed with World Machine and just love the interface. That is ingenius.

Now, for my question.

I use Xara to create contour lines from scanned maps. This works for paper maps where I know ahead of time the heights each lines represent, etc. But, to make 3d maps, it’s a whole 'nother story.

It looks like I have to use grey scales to indicate heights, but what color of grey equals what difference in altitude? Then, I could color in the contours.

Or, is there a means to take a jpg or bmp or whatever format graphic of a set of contour lines and have WM create a map from that?

Just color them with equidistant grey values.
You can always rescale the height map in wm using the Clamp device in Expand mode.

Maybe it’s even possible to create a map form isolines in WM… but not without a significant amount of trickery.
probably not

But also search the internet! There is probably a free tool out there to convert iso lines to height maps.
