Hey folks, I have been playing with World Machine for the past couple of weeks. I am trying to take a rough Photoshop map and import it into World Machine. The map is sharp edged black and white map. I have tried using .PNG and .TGA with varying results. Also I am not getting how to specify where I want to modify the terrain, do I go to layout and use Layout Shapes as my area of influence?
I would appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks
Hi there,
My first question is what you want to do with your input mask. If you want to use it as a basis for terrain, you’re probably going to need to do several things to it:
- Add a Blur device to the output of the file input set to a pretty high radius to create softly falling off edges
- Pipe that input into the guide and/or mask inputs of an Advanced Perlin Noise device to create terrain shapes within the guide image.
I highly recommend checking out tutorial #2: http://world-machine.com/learn.php?page=tutorial
It deals with masks and selectively applying effects.
Thanks Remnant, I see how you would use Radial Gradient, but I don’t see how to set up a Layout to an Advanced Perlin and have that connect to the map. In your post http://forum.world-machine.com/index.php?topic=1590.0 I see several things, but I don’t see where the file input goes into anything here. Am I looking at this too linearly? I am not an artist or a programmer sadly so maybe I am not seeing the flow of things. I am trying for mountains like in that link, and the coast looks good too. The clamps hold the elevation at a set height range. And by combining the Mtns section and Rolling plains to the first erosion, but what does the continent raise clamp and coastal erosion do?
