Testing glTF Export and Online Posting

An Alien Landscape - Catalog 211104 01 by davidbryanroberson on Sketchfab

I just had to test out exporting a glTF formatted scene, and putting it up online, etc. This is a nice little alien landscape I cobbled together while experimenting with Artist Point. Edit: It looks like the forum won’t allow an embedded viewer. Still, you can follow the link. I’m amazed at how easy this is to use. I’m curious if my free Sketchfab account lets me post something like this. It seems to be working for me, at least.

glTF is a very well done format - I was very impressed by how easy it makes moving terrain into various renderers and editors, as well as direct viewing on the web.

I think I just changed the forum settings that will allow a sketchfab embed, if you want to try again…

Suffice to say that the next website update will include lots of embedded terrain viewers

Hmm. The embed code is in there when I edit. It just doesn’t add anything but the associated links. It will be a nice feature for the forum, once it is working, though!

Here’s the code if you want to examine it:

<div class="sketchfab-embed-wrapper"> <iframe title="An Alien Landscape - Catalog 211104 01" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen="true" webkitallowfullscreen="true" allow="autoplay; fullscreen; xr-spatial-tracking" xr-spatial-tracking execution-while-out-of-viewport execution-while-not-rendered web-share src="https://sketchfab.com/models/3e082ec3da8f492a8aba72db3e51c0a6/embed"> </iframe> <p style="font-size: 13px; font-weight: normal; margin: 5px; color: #4A4A4A;"> <a href="https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/an-alien-landscape-catalog-211104-01-3e082ec3da8f492a8aba72db3e51c0a6?utm_medium=embed&utm_campaign=share-popup&utm_content=3e082ec3da8f492a8aba72db3e51c0a6" target="_blank" style="font-weight: bold; color: #1CAAD9;"> An Alien Landscape - Catalog 211104 01 </a> by <a href="https://sketchfab.com/davidbryanroberson?utm_medium=embed&utm_campaign=share-popup&utm_content=3e082ec3da8f492a8aba72db3e51c0a6" target="_blank" style="font-weight: bold; color: #1CAAD9;"> davidbryanroberson </a> on <a href="https://sketchfab.com?utm_medium=embed&utm_campaign=share-popup&utm_content=3e082ec3da8f492a8aba72db3e51c0a6" target="_blank" style="font-weight: bold; color: #1CAAD9;">Sketchfab</a></p></div>

I just editing your link in the first post, and the embed shows up.

It’s extremely easy now - simply paste the link to your model, and Discourse will automatically embed it.

That’s great! I see it now. Awesome! :joy_cat:

Just a quickie project to test out the option of using the Sketchfab quick-link to post a viewer. It seems to work!

For today, I revisited one of the Example Worlds that come with World Machine. This began as Alien Canyons, and it caught my eye when I came across a post referring to it here in the forums. I liked the use of AO to enhance the texture, but thought it would look better using the Barren gradient, instead of Sandy Desert. I made it a square terrain, added some rivers and created a new texture for it. It’s a darker, hopefully more alien world than the original.
