USGS Maps to World Machine Help

After 2 hours of searching, and alot of beating my head off the wall, I am unable to find a guide on how to take data from the USGS and add it to WM.

If anyone can help me here with a step by step guide, I will make a video guide in return.

Thanks

Hi there,

The first step is to convert from the USGS DEM to a format that WM can understand. I’ve heard good things about Global Mapper, but there are many programs that can do this conversion – maybe someone else can chime in here. Once you have the elevations in a bitmap or raw format, you can load it in with a File Input device to do your processing within World Machine.

Hi ineedcash12,

Download 3dem, it’s a freeware program: http://www.hangsim.com/3dem/

You can load any kind of DEM data files and then export it as a terragen file that WM can import using the “file input” device.

What is the actual site/place we are supposed to get the .dem data from. I can only get a pdf with topicgraphical data.

you can get some from here
