World Machine fresh installation, won't run

I just freshly installed WM235_Basic.exe on a Windows XP SP3 machine. While the installation went without a hitch, when I try to run the program it pops up for a second and then disappears.

There are a lot of zero byte crash dumps in the program directory as well.

I will see what I can do – I believe one of the introduced features calls a windows API that requries a >XP version of windows to run properly.
