World Machine to Mudbox

Hello I’m following Wenda’s tutorials - how to get terrain from WM to CryEngine but when I’m trying to make a sculpt from map this is what I get : Any ideas how to fix it? And im using free version of WM.

Hi there,

I’m not familiar with the Wenda workflow, but the effect you have there looks to me like a classic low-bitdepth problem – when you export your terrain, make sure you choose a high-bitdepth (16bit) format instead of an 8bit one.

Actually i saved it as .PNG (16 bit) 512x512
#Edit I noticed there are less of these terraces with lower subdivision, but the terrain is not enough detailed ;/

Wenda’s tutorial is what got me to start looking at World Machine seriously. He has done some impressive stuff with World Machine. Myself (and from what I can tell, many other people) have basically copied his workflow.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p0o3bqoM0Qg (beginning of his workflow tutorial video, first 15 seconds should tell you all you need to know about the quality of the finished project)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=40glxZCyPeY&t=1m40s (using world machine to generate stencils for significantly improved modelling in mudbox)

I would suggest you look at it as a significant use-case. Also, if you poke around on youtube for videos of people showing off what they’ve made with WM, there is not a lot of stuff (which is a problem), but his stuff stands out.

I’ll certainly take a look!

Default heightmap from WM to Mudbox, works fine here with 16bit tiff.
Your image shows that’s an 8bit heightmap you have exported from WM.

I don’t really know how but when i changed extension to tif it worked fine. Thanks a lot !

The Wenda tutorials are how I discovered World Machine as well.
