Assignable IO Ports On Devices

There are a lot of devices with IO ports like Primary Input and Primary Output – which is fine for when they are open, but once they’re connected to something I’d prefer them to adopt the name of the port they are connected to (since the devices can end up far apart in the graph). If there was a button or something to imprint source and target port names as needed, that would be ideal. In some cases, it might be better to be able to manually override names when neccessary, too.

I’d love this to be default behavior. Anyone with me on this? I’ll submit a request to World Machine User Suggestions if others support the idea.

@davidroberson You can rename your data wires using a “Checkpoint”. The only catch you’ll find is this one behavior.

Yep. That’s what I’ve usually done, and I’m quite familiar with that little bug. If the Checkpoints included the suggested caching behavior, I’d feel better about them, but overall I find them clunky and undesirable. I’d much prefer my proposal.
