Can WM Pro do what I need with many tiles?

Hi There, I have purchased and have been having fun with the standard WM. Part of the reason for this is because I have a huge project coming up. I have to animate a long stretch of UK coastline and the client will be supplying ‘Arc Grid’ files (.asc). I have managed to import a couple of test files into VTBuilder, from where I can export .bt files and bring them into WM. There have been some issues with the tiles not matching their height data, ie to adjacent tiles import into WM with completely different heights. Anyway, I figured out how to move the tiles into place in WM Layout View. Bearing in mind I had to use multiple File Input devices then use a ‘combiner’ to merge them. I couldn’t actually get it to work as I wanted due to the different heights but hopefully I can figure a way around this. (I did manage to export 16bit greyscales from VTB and stitch them in photoshop, then import the whole thing into WM, which worked but is a clunky way round it).

My main question is if I get the pro version, with its tiling extras, will it allow me to automatically import a whole batch of tiles (there may be 100’s) and then work on the combined terrain in WM, so I can then export a stitched together mesh that I can then animate in Lightwave, or maybe a set of larger tiles to make positioning in LW much easier than manually moving 100’s into place.

Any help, guidelines much appreciated.

So I’m guessing no then… :frowning:

Hi there,

what you’re looking to do is exactly what the tiled support in WM Pro is meant to provide. The only caveat is that your tiles have to be named in a logical grid system ( such as my_tile_1_1.bt, my_tile_2_1.bt, etc) where a X,Y coordinate is provided in the filename to specify which tile goes where. The Tiled File Input device can handle many hundreds of tiles without issue.

Shoot me an email at support@world-machine.com with your name, email , and organization and I can set you up with a 45 day trial to see if the Pro edition will do what you need.
