Civil to WM

Ok I am new here and I am hoping that WM will fix the problem I have had creating models from Civil drawings. So how do I do that in WM? Right now I am working off topo lines and TIN’s and of course the site has changes since Civil had it. Basically I need a hill a pretty steep one with a driveway cut into it and the house cut into it as well.

Thanks

From what I can make of Civil drawings, they are based on parameterized curves. So TINs seam to be the best way to deal with that (in terms of accuracy). Note WM works around heighmaps, which is a “regular” mesh of vertices… That means the terrain is not going to look as pretty :stuck_out_tongue:

Now, regarding the highway cuts and the house cuts…

House cuts, sound easy to do… They’re a flat surface!.. not trouble there…
the highway… may be more tricky… unless the highway is horizontal… if it follows the terrain, there really isn’t (yet) a way to do it nicely…

Anyway, I think WM is most adequate for something that does not demant precision and accuracy. Something that is just to look good and not to be an exact specification of things…

Fil.

Ok Fil thank you. I have seen many great Terrain modelers out there but I have been having problems finding accurate & flexable site modelers. The site in question was modeled with TIN’s from civil then changed in the field to have new retaing walls in new locations and not so much cut/fill in certain areas. The house itself is cut into the site (imagine a cylinder booleaned into a hill) Then the site has a road cut into the hill about 6’ at the highest.

I have Vue and I think it’s pretty cool but the terrain painting method lacks a lot. And gives me nothing as far as accuracy goes.
