Is there a way to output the color map of the terrain?
Yes
- Build your terrain
- Select the 2D view (Ctrl+2)
- In the Leftbar, select “Height” (which will remove the shadows in the preview)
- Go to the File menu, then choose “Save Viewport As Image…” and save.
Is it possible to define my own terrain color and
add it to the ColotTable selector?
Thanks.
This is also possible
You must edit the “colors.tga” file with a program like Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro…
Increase the picture height by 1 pixel and draw your new gradient on the newly available horizontal line (at the bottom of the pic), then edit colors.txt to add the color name.
That’s perfect.
Thank you so much Rhalph.
I followed these directions but cannot get WM to recognize the new pixel row of color added to the bottom. I have inserted a new name in the text file as well. I’ve also closed WM and restarted but it still will not recognize any of the changes.
I am running the registered 1.25 version.
Anyone have an idea what the problem may be?
Are you positive you are writing to the right colors.tga file?
Are you positive you are writing to the right colors.txt file?
Did you save the file before opening WM?
What are the simptons? Does the color scheme you created not appear in the list? is it a blank line on the list but the colors are ok? Do you get a message saying “could not load colortable (file: colors.tga)” ?
If the name does not appear on the list, it means that the file WM is reading does not have your name on it.
I don’t have any other idea to what could be wrong.

Yep … I’m sure. Only thing I was thinking is that, when I installed 1.25 I did not remove my previous version. Perhaps some older files are being used in that the file paths are being mixed between the older version directories and the new version ones.

Positive on both accounts though my slight suspicion noted above may apply here as well.

The symptoms are easy … nothing changes. There are no blank spots in the color name drop down list (as drawn from the txt file. The color scheme remains unchanged from the original WM tga file. I do not receive any error messages.
If the name does not appear on the list, it means that the file WM is reading does not have your name on it.
So how do I rectify this? I am running the registered version. It’s a legal version (Not pirated). I’ve been running the registered version for a few years now.
by “not have your name on it” I meant that colors.txt did not have the name you chose for the color scheme!..
But what you said about installing WM reminded me of something!
Do this. Go to the dir where your colors.tga is, and run the WorldMachine.exe that is there! That should work.
WM remembers the “instance” that ran the last time. This means that if you double-click a tmd file, the last one that ran is the one that is going to run again! I am guessing that the last one you ran is the one located elsewhere, that does not have the colors.tga and txt updated by you.
So try double-cliking the exe file in the same directory as the colors.tga
From then on, that will be the version of WM that runs (unless you run the other one meanwhile).
Ya that did it Fil. Thanks for the help. Everything works well now.
