Hello,
at my homepage I want to offer some of my tmd-files for download. As long as these tmd-files does not contain any macro devices this should be no problem. But what is if the tmd-file contains macros (sometime third party macros)?
Do I’ve to ask the creator of the macro if I can put his macro into the download file?
If any of those macros was made by me, go ahead!
As for other people’s… I don’t know…
I think the authors of macros should understand that macros will eventually be used in that way… It’s more so if someone comes up with a really usefull macro
Each TMD has the macro defined inside it, so there is no need for downloading the macro to open the TMD (unlike plugins)…
But I don’t know… Personally I think the most that can be demanded is a short mention to "This tmd includes macros by "
But I think I remember having read something about this somewhere…
I’d say a short comment like the one Fil suggested should be enough. The macros description contains the name of its creator anyways.
Thank you for your replies.
Correct me if I am wrong:
If I offer a tmd file which contains macros for download I do not have to separately put the macros into the zip-file?
I was asked by some Renderosity members if I would like to share my tmd files with them and I’ve recognized that some of my tmd files contains some third party macros (f. e. SiSaSu’s Crazy Perlin macro). I think that I also have used some of your macros Fil.
So I will make a note and name the author (if I know the name).
Nope, no need to put the macros in .dev files along side it. That’s for plug-in .dlls only…
The macros are stored inside the TMD.
Macros by me? I love hearing that It makes me sound less crazzy and more useful to someone
You can put my nick name in it… “Fil” sounds nicely… But if you want to use my real name, be warned that it has more than 3 characters: “Filipe Marques Dias”. Pick any of them!
Alternatively, “Filipe Dias, a.k.a. Fil” will also do
Fil is right.
btw: If someone isn’t able to open the file properly file it’s usually because he doesn’t have all the devices needed in the macro. So he might have not downloaded the most recent version of wm or the macro can only be used by “Standard” users and he only got basic.
