Unless Mr. Stephen is making advances on the software at a daily rate that’s news-worthy, and unless people are submitting completed content likewise at a daily rate, I personally fail to see what such daily updates would be. The only thing that seems to occur at a daily rate around here are forum topics, which to me doesn’t always seem like the best Facebook posting material.
Just speaking for myself here, I think in this social-media world today, folks always expect someone to post something everyday, but I know for myself at least that sometimes, you just have nothing to say at the moment. I personally see nothing particularly wrong with that. You don’t want to just start junk-posting things just for higher search results.
I myself have a Facebook page, a Twitter page, and a developer’s blog, and I know that it’s rather time-consuming to try to upkeep them all while trying to continue with my developments–even at a once-a-day rate. Sometimes, it’s hard trying to always find something to post. But again, I’m just speaking from my own experience here. I don’t want to speak for Stephen here.
Though, if people do want something posted everyday, seems like the best thing to help such is a higher rate of submitted finished work, tutorials, tips, etc. Seems to me like the community could better give the Facebook page something to be frequented. But that’s just my two cents on the matter.
hello brian…
speaking for myself, i agree with you completely. i don’t cope well with web 2.0 as well, being a gopher era internet junkie. but with present day competition, one step less could be all that’s necessary for this brilliant project to fall (forgive the dramatics!). and although it’s not necessary for every company to have a facebook page, if you put efforts in making one, you better be ready to “socialize” properly.
as for my suggestion, stephen isn’t exactly asking for it, it was just my “2 cents” as well!
1: there’s a whole gallery of brilliant artworks on the site, why not post them there as well, but just one every day!
2: the tutorial videos could be posted in the videos section.
3: a single new tip for world machine users every day
4: at least embellish the fact that there’s a free basic version available for download, i didn’t know that the first time i heard of world machine!
5: you could post the official site’s link using ruses like "did you know that you can build unconstrained resolution builds using tiled build options available in wm pro!!! order now at " … you could do that once every 2 weeks
6: i could go on all day…!!!
this was the answer for content… as for the development time, you could appoint your marketing person as the admin of your page, or someone else you know, like a teenager in your neighbourhood.
and lastly for community to do something, i strongly agree with you… but as you know on facebook, if community posts something on the page, it goes into a separate section that is not even visible at the first glance… so again the admin of the page has to post it him/herself.
one more thing, for the content, WIP section of forum is perfect, but i see no activity there as well.
Hi folks,
First off, I completely agree: ideally social media should be a fairly steady stream of useful and interesting information from the sources you care about. WFab, I love your list of suggested posts, and if you (and others on the forums here) are willing to come up with a more fleshed out set I would be very happy to post them!
As Brian noted, however, the crucial constraint here is time. World Machine Software is, presently, just me. That means the time to allocate to even critical functions gets sliced very thin – physically posting something to FB takes just a moment, but it takes far longer to create even ‘trivial’ things like an infographic, a tutorial, a blog post, etc. At the moment, that mostly leaves the page as a vector to get news about new updates – but I agree that brainstorming up a list of posts would probably be dramatically useful. Again, any suggestions you have I am very happy to listen to! For sure you make a good point about pointing out on the FB page that the Basic Edition is free – that’s all over the main website but I totally missed mentioning that on the facebook site.
hi stephen,
i know its hard for you to do it, with dev schedules to keep. you could start small, like posting existing resources strategically. the two brilliant tutorials and website’s gallery could be the starting point. the rest is ultimately up to the community we have here. the forum needs to see some life as well. as for “fleshed out stuff” i’ll try my best to post some royalty free stuff for guys to play with as they please.
