New Device: LEGO Filter

Hi there!

You probably already heard of the PDK. Well I spent about a week using it to create a new device. A LEGO Filter, which makes things look like they are built of LEGO blocks

Check it here: LEGO Filter.zip.

The zip file contains the LEGO Filter.dll to be placed inside your World Machine/plugins/devices/ folder. It also contains a LEGO example.tmd file that shows all the stuff you can do with that filter.

Oh, it took me only 2 hours to code the essential part of the LEGO Filter (rescalling and discretization of heights) but to put it working in explorer in perfection took me two or three days of work. So, when you see it in explorer, please try to get fascinated!

Happy exploring,

Nice work Fil! Hurrah for the first publicly produced plugin!

Yes, excellent work Fil

Bravo Fil

Well, I do have to thank Oshyan and Rhalph that gave me feedback and suggestions, and spetially Stephen who, additionally, clarified a lot of questions I had about how particular things were done. That enabled me to put something out to everyone in a “finished” state.

Oo! My Son-in-law is the Director Global Promotions
LEGO Company, I shall have to have a look at this

Well I have…

Well done Fil, not quite sure what to do with it but I will

Grrrrrrrrrrr! I’ve done it again. That’s me above.

heh! That image looks nice! Resembles a possible 3D teris game, or some background for a 2D air-to-ground arcade game…

Well, I’m no Promotions Director, but I am a fan of LEGO

I have a question about your image: Are those octogonal studs my fault? Did you intend to make them round? I noticed they show up on some resolutions/sizes, because I am not doing some antialiasing in the stud… But you can avoid using my studs and us a “gaussian generator” (set to cone) and a “height selector” to pick only the highest central area for making the “stud shape”. that should go arround the problem, I think.

Erm! The studs! erm!

No I didn’t do anything to the studs, it is as it came out of the tin!

Thought they were supposed to be like that. :stuck_out_tongue:

:ooops: I’m entitled to bugs too, you know! But since it is easy to overcome as I explained, I don’t think it justifies a new version for the imediate future.

Fil, I thought you should know about this.

That did cross my mind.

I really like what this plugin can do, is there any possibility of an update for the new version?

errr... Yes there is!.. I'm late doing it..

I wanted to also remove the jagged aspect of studs that appear in some sizes (including the unintentional octogonal stud)
Apart from that I already have a version that works in WM v1.2 and 1.25…

So, given the long time I’ve made you guys wait, I’m going to release the working version now, and make an update to it later, with the issues corrected/updated…

I’ll make the plugin available after lunch… :stuck_out_tongue:
See you shortly…

I finally made available a version of the LEGO Filter plugin for WM 1.2x.
Sorry for the delay :frowning:
Note that there is still a known issue with octogonal studs… But at least you now have something that works in version 1.2x of WM.

But the ZIP now has a “readme.txt” file

You should be able to open and work with tmds saved using the older plugin version.

Enjoy!

heh
That’s pretty cool.
The button looks very nice too.

The button looks very nice too.
It was made in a combination of the Filter buttons' blue color and a screenshot of the LEGO filter applied to a Gaussian Generator... The resize to the minuscule button size doesn't show it that much.. but it does look nice.. :) thanks!

A quick note: This plugin is now available on the official WM Plugin page (accessible from within WM by going to Help&Web->Download Plugins, or visiting http://library.world-machine.com/plugins.html)
