Hello I am new here and I have been trying to figure out how to apply textures to world machine terrain. Rocks for the slops and a mask to mix sand and grass like in the picture below. Would really like to see the node setup but I couldn’t find any picture of it in that tread.
So is there any macro available for this kind of task or do i need to figure out how to blend 4 or 5 textures ?
This is an old work of mine. Sadly, I cannot share with you the nodegraph or that world file (NDA). But I can tell you how I did it. It’s simple really.
First, find tileable textures. Bring them into world machine using a file input node. Check “Interpret as RGB” in the file input properties. Then use “set in layout” on the right to cover the extents.
From your terrain, extract your texturing masks, using selector nodes, or erosion outputs. Use “Bias/Gain” node to make sure erosion outputs are bright enough to use.
Use “Chooser” node and input your textures in the first two inputs. Input the mask in the third input. Now use an “Overlay” output, plug your terrain in first input, and chooser output in second input.
This setup is for 2 textures, you can use as many choosers as you want.
For the shake of an ole guy just learning, it there a tutorial any wher that claifies step 2 I’m to new
at this to figuer out where to connect the selectors or which points on the erosion to use, either for me
is confusing I understand there an NDA, but does that cover the method also
No the method is not covered. Sadly, I can’t find any tutorials to do it, although as soon as I’m free, I plan on making a video myself. For a basic terrain setup for snowy mountain, I have a clumsy tutorial you can follow easily. Also, stephen schmitt has made some excellent getting started videos for worldmachine. You can find them on the official website of wm or searching on youtube. Here’s mine
