Hello, All.
Please let me introduce myself. Gary here. I go by Vandy on the 'net but will answer to either name. I’ve just recently started using World Machine and must say, Stephen, I’m quite impressed with this excellent tool. It really is fun to play with and the results are spectacular! Thank you for sharing your talent with us and all the community.
I don’t know if this is the right place for this type of thread or, if it is okay to create a thread in which I’ll share the worlds I’ve created. Please let me know if I’ve “overstepped” my bounds or that this thread is okay as is. Again, thanks.
I’ve been involved with SimCity 4 since December of 2004 and am an avid map-maker for the game. I’ve used a number of tools to create my maps – Landscape Designer, SCRACC, Terragen, Panit Shop Pro, etc. For the past (approximately) two years, my map-making tool-of-choice has been SC4Terraformer, an application created and written by wouanagaine (currently part of the New Horizons Productions team at www.sc4devotion). I have a number of maps available for download on a number of SC4 Fan Sites.
Since I’ve started using World Machine and have discovered how absolutely ADDICTING it is, I can see that I will be using it to create the basic input for maps I produce for SC4. As I can save the output as a .PNG file and SC4Terraformer can import .PNG files, I believe I have the best of both worlds!
I’d like to share with you three images that I believe came out rather nice. Mind, they probably will look quite “newbish” to most of you as I am sure you are much better at world creation than I at the present time. However, with time, patience and practice, I shall get better.
For no rhyme or reason, I’ve titled these images with a variant of the made-up word Wamuso. I have no clue as to why other than it struck my “fancy”.
The first picture is “Wamuso Volcano”. I cannot actually “claim” the first offering as mine since it is based off the Volcano tutorial on the World Machine Web site. Nonetheless, I am please with the results.
The second picture was truly a joy to create. I just finished it today. It is based on a Terragen .TER file (used as the file input) that I made some time ago. I do like the results of this world creation. It is called Wamuso Valley.
Finally, the third picture uses the same world devices, just “tweak” a bit so only show a small portion of the world in an “altered” start. I call it Lake Wamuso.
I hope you’ll enjoy my initial offerings from this most excellent of map-making terrain generators. I look foward to your replies and my continued sharing with you.
Regards,
Gary
