Water & land in Scene view - Up to date videos?

Trying online videos:

just to create and show water in the Scene. But water and landmass are separated.
Can’t get land and rivers to show at the same time.

World Machine tutorials are scarce these days, but what you’re attempting is simple enough.

Create “Scene view” device as an output. Plug in your heightmap/mesh, material/texture/colormap, and “water” data into it. Then “lock preview” on that scene view device. Now editing your graph, you’ll get realtime update of those three properly set up. You can find a few Scene view screenshots straight from WM 3D view within my earlier WIP forum post.

ah, that means "scene view devices can be mulitple. they will never conflict?

Managed to create rivers as mentioned in:

defaault project of world machine (WM), already had the devices:

so I plugged in my devices, just like the link: flow restructure to create river, from create river 2 lines to a new Scene view.

This creates new questions for me:

  • How to change the depth, width of rivers?

Within the parameters of the “Create Water” device.

This is a funny but very understandable misconception! Yes we do not really have “scenes” in WM, nor do we really work with that. The closest analogy would actually be the Extents, but even then, that is mostly used for detailing within the main extent, and not so much a different scene.

The Scene Device, therefore, can indeed be used at arbitrary places in your graph, and there is no limit to the number of these. You do can export the scene loaded in the scene device, which is a neat feature, allowing you to quickly preview terrain in external software!
